Gareth Long: Kidnappers Foil
Friday, November 15, 2019
Artist/Curator remarks: 6:30pm
Free and open to the public
Kidnappers Foil is an immersive moving image installation by Toronto-based artist Gareth Long that explores the social, cultural, and media histories of amateur American filmmaking through the lens of the itinerant Texan filmmaker Melton Barker.
The evening will also feature Four Films on Memory and Place, a free film program presented by the 2019 Houston Cinema Arts Festival. The screening features film and video works that explore relationships between mass media, image circulation, social memory, and place, honing in on Houston, Miami, and the Persian Gulf Region. Like the exhibition Kidnappers Foil, the screening program examines the mediation of local histories, following the ways in which non-professional subjects are mediatized and the cultural effects and repetitive nature of pop culture phenomena.
Free parking available in Lot 16B via attendant.
