Cat Martinez is a visual artist based in Houston, Texas. She is a mixed media sculptor who works with metals, fibers and mold-making. Her work is often an abstract representation of significant moments in her life. She delves into subjects of race and ethnicity while using humor to debunk stereotypes and untruths. When Cat creates, she aims to give voice to an emotion that cannot be contained inside oneself. Cat Martinez graduated magna cum-laude, from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture and is currently a candidate for an MFA in Sculpture at the University of Houston. She is also a former Project Row Houses Summer Studios Artist of 2018. Additionally, Cat is a contributing artist of the “We Here Black Women’s Arts Collective.”
