Convergence Research: 2026 Mitchell Center Scholars

How do we find beauty in the mundane? How do we cultivate hope in a time of pessimism and despair? How might the simple acts of engagement and conversation create meaning out of seemingly nothing? The 2026 Mitchell Center Scholars will attempt to answer these questions through their performance in which short vignettes of daily life transcend their parts to form a singular, resonant whole. Visitors will be encouraged to explore and engage, blurring the line between audience member and participant.

The 2026 Scholars and Convergence Research participants are Dr. Lacy Murphy (SOA) Chelsea Desouza, Emily Hunt Kivel (CWP) and Zack Steele (SOTD).

What is Convergence Research

Convergence Research is a collaboration between the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts and the Blaffer Art Museum that supports students and faculty in the McGovern College of the Arts to explore connection and collaboration between the disciplines in the arts and beyond. It is a platform for experimentation and research with the goal of providing opportunities to push the boundaries of the artistic disciplines. Convergence Research promotes interdisciplinary inquiry and techniques to stimulate creative process and cultivate works that are performative, temporary and in any stage of process.
