Convergence Research: Featuring Arin Alston
Arin Alston, student at the University of Houston School of Theatre and Dance, will present an interdisciplinary production showcasing art forms of dance and visual art.
Convergence Research is a collaboration between the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts (CWMCA) and the Blaffer Art Museum. A platform for experimentation and research for students and faculty in the McGovern Collage of the Arts, Convergence Research supports interdisciplinary inquiry and techniques to stimulate creative processes. The resulting works are performative, temporary, and in any stage of production.
Arin Alston moved to Houston from the Pacific Northwest in 2020 to attend the University of Houston where she is currently working towards a BFA in dance. She began studying dance at a young age which led to her enrollment in the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics where she focused on dance and visual arts. Outside of the VSAA dance program, Arin found a love for ballet and trained with Columbia Dance and The Portland Ballet. While working towards her BFA, Alston obtained a job with Houston Ballet Foundation Academy. In 2021, Alston had the privilege to choreograph as well as perform work in University of Houston’s Emerging Choreographers Showcase and is working towards the 2022 showcase. Alston attended the American College Dance Association festival in 2022 with the university’s pre professional dance ensemble which she has been a member of since 2020. She is currently President of the Dance Student Association at the University of Houston and plans to study abroad in France in 2023 with a focus in dance. Alston is set to graduate in the spring of 2024 with hopes of performing abroad upon completion of her degree.
