Jody Wood will present her research and findings related to her ongoing project addressing Houston’s housing crisis, NFS Real Estate. The project is a culmination of the Suzanne Deal Booth Fellowship.

12:30-1:00pm Explore Intimate confession is a project, with a special feature on the work of Iris Touliatou entitled “Museum Stand-in.” Led by docents Tori Nerey and Ammon Saha, the conversational tour will give you a glimpse of the exhibition to discover the methods, collaborations, and motivations behind the works on display.

1:30-2:30pm Tour & Sketching at Jorge Pardo’s Folly. Meet at the Blaffer and take a short stroll to Wilhelmina’s Grove to Join Public Art of the University of Houston System (Public Art UHS) for a guided tour followed by drop-in plein air sketching in Wilhelmina’s Grove. All materials are provided.

2:30-3:00pm Catalog launch, BAMSA Biennial Student Art Exhibition. Curator Talk and Intro to Spring Exhibition: Elissa Gachupin, Megan Randall, Anahi Yeverino. Organized by BAMSA Officers Catalog features artworks by 15 student artists. Drop-in anytime between 12-3pm.

About the Artist

Jody Wood is an artist working in mediums of social practice, video, photography, and performance, and her recent work addresses the intersection between poverty, health, and care. Her projects have been supported by prestigious institutions including A Blade of Grass, Esopus Foundation, Rema Hort Mann Foundation, an ArtPlace America Initiative at McColl Center for Art + Innovation, the Fundação Luso-Americana para o Desenvolvimento Grant Award (FLAD) in Portugal, and through residencies at Headlands Center for the Arts, Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, and Skowhegan School for Painting and Sculpture. Her work has been presented internationally in solo exhibitions at Skövde Art Museum and Norrtälje Konsthall in Sweden, Whitebox Gallery in NYC, Open Source Gallery in Brooklyn, and in group exhibitions and screenings at Manchester School of Art, UK; Parrish Museum of Art in Water Mill, NY; and Rond-point projects in Marseille, FR. Her work has been featured in publications such as The Atlantic, Hyperallergic, The Art Newspaper, and MSNBC. She is a faculty member at Sam Houston State University in the Art and Social Practice MFA program.
